We've all been there… Or well, most of us are still “there”, namely, struggling to draw matching wings.
Do you know this scenario? Contour snatched, eyeshadow nicely blended and highlighter on point. But (!) then it’s time to apply eyeliner and you’re already starting to get nervous… You grab your pen or jar and try to make a first line…. Sh*t! slipped! “Okay, I’ll just grab a cotton swab and wipe it away”. Result? Panda eyes and ruined makeup. Yep, the struggle is real ladies.
Therefore, we provide tips for anyone who has difficulty applying eyeliner and drawing wings.
Tip #1: An eyeliner with a brush vs an eyeliner pen
Tip number one is already a golden tip: know which products you can work with best. Many women choose an eyeliner in a pot with a brush . This is where you go wrong, an eyeliner with a brush is a lot more difficult to use than an eyeliner pen. The eyeliner from a pot is more fluid and with the thin brush it is quite a challenge to draw straight lines. Do you think the pigment of an eyeliner pen is not dark enough? Then first draw the wing with an eyeliner pen and then go over it with a brush.
Tip #2: Build up your eyeliner in small steps
Unless you are a make-up artist or a beauty guru a la Nikkie Tutorials, we advise you not to draw a line across your eyelid in one go for a nice wing. If you want to have 2 equal wings in one line, you really have to be a pro. It is best to build up the line in small steps. Start with a thin line and gradually extend it until you have reached the right length. Then fill in the line to the desired thickness.
Tip #3: Work from the outside in
This is a classic beginner mistake. Many women think that they need to draw a line from the inner corner of their eye to the outer corner. The trick is to first draw the wing against your outer corner and then draw the line to your inner corner.
Start with a diagonal line from the outer corner of your eye upwards. From the end of the diagonal line you just drew, draw a line back down, ending the line about halfway down your lash line. Color in the wing, then draw a line along your lash line toward the inner corner of your eye.
Tip #4: Waterproof eyeliner
On an average day, your eyes have to endure a lot. Cycling against the wind can already cause watery eyes, walking in the rain or sweat drops from taking the stairs… All factors that can cause moisture to form around your eyes and eyeliner to leak.
Therefore, choose a good waterproof eyeliner that is also smudge-proof. It may take some searching (actually not, because our Easy Wing is all of these ;-)) and may cost a bit more than an eyeliner from Hema or a Kruidvat eyeliner, but it is worth the investment. It is best to choose an eyeliner based on oil instead of water, that way you know for sure that the eyeliner is waterproof.
Tip #5: De-fat your eyes
Many women have slightly oily skin around their eyes. This can be caused by increased sebum production, but also by the use of day cream or foundation. Both day cream and foundation contain oils and this can cause your eyeliner to smudge. Therefore, first apply a primer with a little setting powder before you start on the wing. Do you not have a primer or setting powder at home? Then a (skin-colored) eye shadow works well too.
Tip #6: Eyeliner stamps – Why make it difficult when it can be easy?
After reading these tips, do you still not know what to do or does it all seem like too much hassle? No worries, there is a solution for that too. The eyeliner stamp. With this you stamp the wing right next to your eye and draw in the line. Marbl.'s founder, Julie, has released Easy Wing eyeliner stamps because she always had trouble drawing even wings.
Our Easy Wing Eyeliner stamps are a favorite of thousands of women for a reason. With an eyeliner stamp you save the effort and time you normally spend drawing wings yourself and you are always sure that your wings are the same.
We designed Easy Wing with separate stamps for your left and right eye so that the stamp actually makes a small upward angle for the real wing effect. The design of Easy Wing is also specially designed to always be able to place the wings at the same height. You do this by placing the bottom point of the wing directly next to the corner of your eye and drawing the line from the top point to the inner corner of your eye. In addition, the Easy Wing formula is 100% Waterproof and smudge-proof! The eyeliner is easy to remove with our Cleanser & Make up remover.
Did you know that Marbl. is the only brand in Europe that sells a set with separate stamps for both eyes? We also offer 4 different wing sizes, so you have a suitable wing for every occasion. Which size will you choose?
